Kia Mackie is the Director of ‘The Layers’ (2017). She was born in Tokyo in 1995, and went on to study at the University of Westminster, where The Layers film was collectively with students from her course: BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Practice, for their Final Major Project.

Though the film is fictional, ‘The Layers’ was inspired by Mackie’s own experience of Depression.

The film is about overcoming troubles in a peaceful way, and seeking a balanced mind.

It’s also about forgiving the past self for not knowing any better, and taking a step back to detach onself from negative thoughts.
